American Express: Marriott Bonvoy cards across Amex and Chase
Marriott Bonvoy cards are issued by both American Express and Chase, and each card's terms can block its bonus if you recently opened, or recently earned a bonus on, a Marriott card from either bank.
In the issuer's terms The issuer states this, in a card's terms or an official statement.
What counts, and what doesn't
Applies to: Amex: Marriott Bonvoy Bevy, Brilliant and Business. Chase: Marriott Bonvoy Boundless, Bold and Bountiful.
- The usual windows are 90 days for having opened another Marriott card and 24 months for having earned a Marriott card bonus, with some terms also looking at cards held in the last 30 days.
- The rules differ card by card and have changed several times, including a 2025 tightening on the Brilliant that was later reversed. Check the specific card's terms before you apply.
- Planning both banks' cards is a matter of order: the sources below keep current eligibility charts.
